Xiaomi has lots of expansion plans for 2015, and they’ll reveal them in February, at least according to the recent Weibo (Chinese social network) post by the company’s CEO. This company intends to sell 100 million smartphones this year, and expansions to other markets will help them achieve that for sure. India is one of the countries Xiaomi intends to open up shop in, according to latest reports, the company will start manufacturing devices in that Asian country in Q2 or Q3 this year. Brazil is probably also one of the destinations for this Chinese tech giant, and along with Brazil probably the rest of Latin America. There are lots of potential destination for Xiaomi, and we’ll know everything soon enough.
Now that we got that out of the way, we recently reported that Xiaomi will hold an event in San Francisco on February 12th. Our Xiaomi sources were quite specific as far as this goes, and now we get some additional information regarding this event. We initially had to speculate what will the event be about, because I doubted that Xiaomi will announce any hardware for the U.S. market, Hugo Barra said that the company doesn’t have any plans to enter the top-tier markets anytime soon. It seems like that assumption was correct, the company will not announce any sort of hardware on February 12th, so don’t hold your breath. This will be more of a meet-and-greet type of an event, and the company will showcase their current lineup it seems, but that’s it.
It will take a couple of years for Xiaomi to reach the U.S. and Europe as far as official sales go, as Hugo Barra said quite recently actually. This is still quite interesting though, and a big step for Xiaomi. This company is hungry for success and their growth-rate is truly staggering. A company that was founded in 2010 and sold 19 million smartphones in 2013 to a company that managed to sell 61 million units in 2014. They don’t plan to stop there, Xiaomi intends to sell 100 million devices this year, and expanding to other markets will play a big part there. Unfortunately, the U.S. won’t be one of those markets, but we could already assume that. We’ll be at the scene on February 12 and will keep you informed, so stay tuned.
