Many devices are still waiting for their updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and this includes various Samsung handsets from various carriers and across various regions. Samsung’s main headliners already have the software at this point in most cases, like the Galaxy S5 for example, but many of their devices are still waiting for the update to the newer software and will be continuing to wait for a little while longer yet. One of these devices is the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, a smaller brother to the Galaxy S5. According to the French twitter account of Samsung the wait will still be a a ways off as they’ve mentioned the Galaxy S5 Mini is getting updated to Android Lollipop sometime in Q2 of this year.
Sometime in Q2 is a fairly vague statement, one that unfortunately doesn’t paint a picture of when exactly users can expect the update to hit devices, and since this is Samsung’s French Twitter account making the post, it also leaves out any explanation for users who are running with the Galaxy S5 Mini in other regions around the globe, as no mention was made whether or not a global roll out of Lollipop can be expected for the Galaxy S5 Mini in the time frame specified, or if this is just for the Galaxy S5 in France.
This news means that users are looking at getting the update sometime between the Spring and near the beginning of Summer, or more specifically sometime between April and June of this year. It’s almost March, and after March comes April so there is a chance the update to Lollipop for the Galaxy S5 Mini could only be a month to two months away, it’s also possible however that the Galaxy S5 Mini may not receive the update till the beginning of June which is a little over four months away, essentially a third of the entire year. When the update does drop, Galaxy S5 Mini owners can expect to see the same types of software changes made to the original Galaxy S5, like the subtle and more obvious UI changes to TouchWiz.
