According to Google 54% of people searching for flights using search are not even sure where they are planning to go. In short, they just know they want to getaway. With this in mind, Flights places an emphasis on being able to choose by greater regions than simply a country.
It is also worth noting that the new shopping service has some rather neat and handy tip features built-in. So when you are flying from one location to another and Google recognizes that you can save money by choosing a different airport, location or date, the search results will let you know about this option. To give you an example, when testing the service on a flight From San Diego to London (cheapest prices roughly coming in at $1300+, Google flights made it clear a saving of over $470 could be made by flying from Orange County taking the price down to just over $700.
