It was only a matter of (brief) time after the iPhone launch that we had gold plated and diamond encrusted iPhone cases for the ultimate expression of bank account numbers. Is it really that much of a surprise that the same thing is happening to the smart band with the Christophe & Co. Armill?
This extra snazzy high-end wearable features gold, diamonds, and a black-and-red style designed to be as manly as a bracelet can be. The cost? Up to $150,000, depending on the model, which includes Virtus, Orion, and Apollo.
Those gold iPhone cases were just for show, but the Armill smart wristband actually has some very cool-sounding tech inside. There are small rotors inside the wearable that move as the wearer moves his arms around. These rotors charge the device from the inside, renewing the battery (which lasts a year on its own) so that with enough activity, the Armill does not need to be recharged. Ever.
Aside from the perpetual motion magic, the wristband uses NFC and Bluetooth LE communication to offer a variety of security, authentication, and wireless data transfer functions. What kind specifically? That depends: The Armill is designed to be customizable via certain modules, depending on what kind of jet set lifestyle you have. What to control your smart home? No problem. What your yacht to recognize when you step on board? Easy. Want to control your house theater with a wave? It can be done. Want to create a club where only other Armill wearers are allowed in the smart locked door? The party is probably already being planned.
All right, so you probably don’t have $75,000 to $150,000 to drop on this royal smart band. But it’s worth looking at for another reason. This is some seriously advanced tech, and the chances are good it will eventually trickle down into more affordable smart wristbands. So don’t mind that bling, just stay patient for the idea to evolve.
