We haven’t heard much from ZTE lately, but the company has big plans for next year it seems. We’ve seen a couple of alleged Nubia Z9 leaks a while back, showing us a bezel-less smartphone which looks really odd and great at the same time, at least in my humble opinion. Bezel-less phones are slowly but surely becoming a thing and I do believe that several manufacturers will continue working on trimming down the bezels on their smartphone offerings and by doing that come as close as possible to a bezel-less phone. The completely bezel-less phone is currently impossible to manufacture basically because you need to put all the sensors somewhere including the front-facing camera, but it seems like those bezels are becoming so thin that you can barely notice them.
Talking about the Nubia Z9 and thin bezels, Jingdong Mall’s (one of China’s biggest retailers) VP confirmed a while back that the Nubia Z9 will be as narrow as the iPhone 4S, which only added some fuel on the bezel-less phone rumors. That phone is expected to sport bezels on top and bottom, of course, but the side bezels will reportedly be completely gone, except for the metallic trim which will go around of course, but that is hardly noticeable. The phone is expected to sport a 5.2 or a 5.3-inch display and it was said earlier this year that it will launch this month, but that quite probably won’t happen. Nubia Z9 will launch next year according to ZTE, the company basically confirmed that fact, though they did not mention anything about its specifications, bezels or anything of the sort.
We still have no idea when to expect this phone to launch, its predecessor (Nubia Z7) was announced back in July, so if we take that as a launch timeframe for the Nubia Z9, then we won’t be seeing this phone hit the market for another 6 or 7 months. The device could arrive sooner than that though, the leaks have been pointing in that direction and even though I really doubt we’ll see this thing launched in January at CES in Las Vegas, it might arrive in the first half of 2015.
