As with all new devices there are certain milestones that will be reached in the device’s lifespan. Although for the OEM’s the launch of a device is technically the end of the journey, for the consumer this is where the journey begins. So first up we always have the launch, which is followed by the release of the device. Shortly afterwards (sometimes really quickly) we get the various ROM builds hitting the forums and ready to install. You see, buying a device is one thing but buying the pre-installed version of android is usually not what sells the device. Unless you are a Nexus or OnePlus user of course. So once the device is released the race for custom ROM builds begins. However, one integral milestone which was not mentioned and neatly positioned between the device release and the ROM build is a compatible custom recovery. This is fundamental to being able to (easily) install or flash the ROM of your choice.
Almost weekly we see custom recovery compatibility added to a new device and this week is no different with this week’s turn going to the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Yes, it now seems that everyone’s favourite plastic-to-metal device, the Galaxy Alpha now has a custom recovery to call its own. The good folks over at TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) have managed to port their recovery over to the Galaxy Alpha and now Alpha owners can take the next step to installing their favourite ROM.
It is probably like that Samsung owners are the most eager to get a custom recovery in place due to the what seems to be an automatic hatred towards TouchWiz. If that is you and you are an Alpha owner and want to get straight down to business then click here to head over to the TWRP page. On the listing, TWRP do advise to use the standard TWRP app installer available via Play Store or from the website directly. Although the installer does require your Alpha to be rooted. For everyone else you can download the img file from the same link and flash as you would normally via Odin. Whichever route you take and as always, flash safe and make sure all your important details are backed up. I know its boring to hear, but you never know.
