This afternoon we have a good variety of news coming from Samsung, Arm and Verizon. Want to learn more? Stick around o learn all the details!
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 launch dates
Keeping up with a device’s global launch dates can be a bit complicated. Samsung aims to alleviate some of the stress by providing a neat and organized map that shows exactly when the Galaxy Note 4 will be reaching different markets.
The USA is not included in the image for soem reason, but it’s expected to launch in mid-October. Specific dates will vary a bit depending on your carrier.
Opinion: We certainly wish more manufacturers offered maps like this one. Check it out and find out when your country is getting the Galaxy Note 4!
ARM announces platform and OS for IoT
We are expecting the IoT (Internet of Things) to be a huge market in tech within the coming years. Everyone wants to be a part of this movement, and ARM is not waiting around for competitors to beat them to the race.
The company has announced mbed Device Server and mbed OS. The first is a platform that will offer the server technology to manage devices. The latter is a free operating system for ARM Cortex M-powered IoT devices. It will allow developers to focus on hardware and innovation, as opposed to the software powering them.
Production is not taking long, either. The mbed Device Server is available now, while mbed OS will be available during Q4 2014 for early development. The first devices should launch by early 2015 – that’s fast!
Opinion: It’s smart of ARM to do something like this, but we will have to see how efficient this OS is before we pass judgement. Android is still out there, a free OS that has a huge reach and could be used for anything. ARM did manage to get some good partners, though, including Ericsson, Marvell, Atmel and more.
Verizon responds to AT&T, doubles data for high-tier plans
AT&T and Sprint are offering great deals for high-tier data users, doubling their data caps. Verizon is now answering with a very similar move. Big Red is increasing data allowances, often doubling them.
Their $110 data plan used to offer 12 GB and now offers 15 GB. That is not a huge upgrade, but things start looking much better with the $130 tier, which went from 16 GB to 30 GB. All the higher tiers are doubled.
This is a promotional offer, so you must act between October 2nd and October 31st to be part of this deal.
Opinion: These sound like great deals for large families or heavy data users. I would try to get in on this now that it’s an option.
