Meizu, as a company, is doing great. They’re actually having issues meeting the demand when it comes to company’s MX4 flagship. This device was announced at the beginning of last month and is still selling rather well. International availability, affordable price point and a really well-built smartphone resulted in great demand for this Chinese manufacturer. Not to mention that they the company is getting ready to launch Meizu MX4 Pro, or so it seems.
I don’t know if you recall, but about a week ago we stumbled upon a Meizu device running YunOS. There were some rumors this is an upcoming Meizu MX4 Mini device and that it might sport YunOS instead of Flyme. That won’t be the case according to Huang Zhang (also known as J. Wong), Meizu’s founder and CEO. “YunOS is a very good operating system, but Meizu smartphones need Flyme. It is impossible for Meizu to become an entry-level mobile internet enterprise without Flyme. A better smartphone needs a better operating system.” said Zhang on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. Later on, Zhang has deleted that post and posted something almost identical, but without the “YunOS is a very good operating system” part. This, of course, created all sorts of speculations about the relationship between Meizu and Alibaba, that it might not be as stable as everyone thought. Meizu invested in Alibaba and YunOS in the past, so this seems rather odd. YunOS smartphones are currently available only in China.
This actually makes sense, why would Meizu switch to YunOS when Flyme is rather great OS, especially after the 4.0 update. Meizu MX4 is performing great and Flyme OS is actually a pleasure to use according to my colleagues who actually used that device, our review will be up soon as well. As far as Alibaba and Meizu goes, we have no idea what’s going on there. It’s possible Zhang’s statement was taken out of context or something, though it seems odd he deleted the first part of it. Anyhow, did you the change to try out Meizu MX4 / Flyme 4.0 yet?
