"Intel Atom…for Windows 8 tablets? Seriously?" - That was our first thought when we first heard of Intel's target device for its then yet-to-be-released Intel Atom Z2760 "Clover Trail" processor. Our concern about the idea mainly came from our previous experiences with Intel Atom-powered netbooks which are not really known for performance although they do offer long lasting battery life for Internet surfing and general productivity applications.
Now that we have finally experience the new processor ourselves not long before it was officially announced to the world last week, we got to say this: the new Intel Atom Z2760 is not the same Intel Atom processors that we used to know. Through our brief time with a pre-production unit of Asus Vivo Tab that is equipped with the new processor as well as 2GB of RAM, the lag that we initially expected from using the Windows 8 Pro user interface was non-existent.
That being said, don't take this as our final verdict on Intel Atom Z2760 though as we didn't get to judge the processor's full performance since we only managed to spend around ten minutes or so with the tablet. Well, we hope that we'll be able to give it a full review if our paths crossed once again in the near future but for the meantime, do check out our brief look at the Asus Vivo Tab that is powered by the new Intel Atom Z2670 through the Read More link below.
Spotting an 11.6-inch display, the Asus Vivo Tab looks pretty much identical to many of previously released Asus Transformer Pad family of tablets. Seems like Asus' design department somehow really tied up to that particular design.
