The news of Kris Wu (吴亦凡) getting detained by the Beijing authorities over his alleged involvement in numerous sexual assault cases went viral over the weekend.
Soon after the reports of his detainment broke out, several fans have also discovered that the singer’s wax figure located at the Madame Tussauds Museum in Shanghai has apparently been given a new makeover – a prison uniform!
According to a report by Sohu News China (as per China Press), not long after the former EXO member was arrest, there were rumours claiming that the outfit of Wu’s wax figure had switched from the original white suit to a blue-coloured uniform for detainees (as seen in the photo above). The revelation has in turn incited heated debates among many netizens.
In this case, some of them applauded Madame Tussauds for their “amazingly swift action”. Others also sarcastically remarked that this might be the first time in the museum’s history for a star to be given a prison outfit. “Keep up with the current events, you can see the scumbag’s style without even seeing him going to jail,” one netizen wrote.
On the contrary, a few fans criticised the action done by the museum, deeming it as improper, as Wu was only suspected of a crime and has yet to be charged. Others also claimed that the viral photo was fake and had been maliciously edited by netizens. To quote several of these die-hard supporters of the celeb, “The picture is just too fake, even the camera angle looks exactly the same!”
A few fans also revealed that they just went to the Madame Tussauds museum in Shanghai, but they couldn’t find the wax figure of the 30-year-old singer-actor displayed at the building. After asking the staff on duty, they said that the sculpture has been temporarily removed from the shelf, as the ‘character’ is “too controversial” at the moment.
While Madame Tussauds hasn’t released any official statement to address the matter, the page of Wu’s wax figure is still available on its official website.
