To streamline the design changes that Google will be introducing with Android 12, which is just a few weeks from going live in the stable version, the Gmail Android app is getting a fresh coat of paint.
Notably, Google has taken the Material You design approach that brings lots of new colors and slight design changes to all of its apps in Android 12.
Apparently, Android 12 is among some of the versions of the Android OS that are receiving some big cosmetic changes. Because, over the past few years of Android OS release, Google has stuck to adding minor features or settings, to facilitate user experience.
However, users will get to see design changes, new colors, new icons, etc. with the Material You design language that Google has opted for Android 12.
Now, the Gmail Android app is also getting fresh colors for labels. As per Android Police, the tabs like “Updates” and “Promotions” are getting extra vibrant.
After opening the Gmail app on Android, you will see some new colors straightaway. They would look different from before, but some general colors have been kept the same.
Fresh colors for the Gmail Android app are arriving via a server-side update
Google has painted green for “Promotions,” blue for “Social,” orange for “Updates” and so on. If you watch closely, you will see the “Updates” tab is the major highlight here.
It does away from the previous bright yellow color for the orange color. This seems like Google wants to sync Gmail’s aesthetics to that of the Gmail web client.
Apart from fresh colors, nothing significant has been added with the update. For those who are wondering how can they get their Gmail Android app update, it is a server-side update.
Meaning it will go live from Google’s side. Just to be specific, the new color changes are seen on the Gmail Android app version 2021.07.11. Make sure that you have the said version of the app or you can also check out the Play Store if there is a new update available.
You can also visit trusted third-party sources, like APKMirror to get the latest version of the Gmail app.
As already mentioned, Android 12 is just a few weeks away from being available as a stable version. So, in the coming weeks, be ready to witness plenty of Google Apps’ to gain user interface or design changes to match the “Material You” look that Google is going ahead with for Android 12.
