WhatsApp To Soon Allow Sending High-Quality Photos & Videos

It has been the need of the hour and people have been asking for this from WhatsApp for too long. Finally, it seems like the request has been accepted as WhatsApp will soon allow users to send or receive photos and videos in their best quality.

FYI, images or videos that are being sent on WhatsApp currently go through compression. This results in quality loss. And to send images or videos in full quality on WhatsApp requires you to change the extension or send it as a document.

But soon, with a future update, WhatsApp users will be able to send high-quality photos/videos on the platform. As noted by WABetaInfo (via The Verge), WhatsApp will provide 3 quality options when sending images or videos.

These are “Auto”, “Best quality”, and “Data Saver.” Notably, it wil by default will be selected as “Auto”, but you can change it when you are in the process of sending.

You can use the “Data Saver” option to save mobile data and compromise on media quality

The “Auto” option will automatically decide whether to send the image in a data saver or best quality mode. Whereas, the “Best quality” option will send the image or video in its highest quality. Finally, the “Data Saver” mode will save your data and send media in compressed form.

Do note that these features are still in beta and there is no official word on when WhatsApp aims to release it or if it will make the official release or not.

Besides, the information provided by WABetaInfo is specifically regarding the WhatsApp Android beta app. So, iOS users might have to wait for more time before they can get their hands on this feature.

However, as noted by The Verge, looking at the feature parity between WhatsApp apps, the development of WhatsApp’s best image quality feature may not be too far behind.

For the curious ones, this new WhatsApp best quality image feature was spotted on the Android beta app version 2.21.14.6. Sending the best quality media will also consume more data and will take more time to upload and send.

But at the time of writing this piece, the option to adjust photo quality on WhatsApp is still not available even on the Beta channel. Once it goes live, you will be able to find it under Settings > Storage and data.

The feature is under development. After it is cooked, it will go live for WhatsApp users in the beta channel. So, stay tuned.
