Spotify & Giphy Coming Together To Effectively Give GIFs A Soundtrack

A recent report by The Engadget suggests that soon, you will be able to tap on your favorite artist’s GIF on GIPHY and listen to their songs on Spotify.

Notably, one of the most popular music and podcast streaming platforms, Spotify, is partnering with GIPHY, a popular name that lets you find and share short animated images, which have teamed together to give their users a different kind of experience.

Basically, they are combining two products into one, sort of. By this, we mean both the companies will allow the artists to add their music to their GIFs.

However, this won’t work the way you think it is going to work. Instead of playing music then and there when you tap on the GIF, you will be redirected to the artist’s Spotify page. Here, you can choose whichever track you wish to play.

Whatever it is, it surely sounds new and interesting. Besides, both Spotify and GIPHY are popular names in the category they serve. So, that makes it more intriguing for artists.

In an official blog, Spotify announced this collaboration. It said, artists that have a verified GIPHY page can now utilize this new feature, and redirect their fans to their Spotify pages.

Clicking on the GIF will show a ‘Listen on Spotify’ button

Fans clicking on their favorite artist’s GIFs will be shown a ‘Listen on Spotify’ button. This will then take them to the artist’s official Spotify page that includes all of their tracks.

Do note that the ‘Listen on Spotify’ button will only be shown on GIFs that have been selected by the artists, and not on every animated image.

Moreover, the participating GIFs will be discoverable on both the GIPHY mobile app and also on the website. Once you land on the artist’s Spotify page, you can listen to their music.

As per the official announcement, artists including Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, The Kid LAROI, and Conan Gray, are already on board with this integration. So, fans of these artists can check out the new feature in action, right now.

The move appears to be a pretty interesting initiative, giving artists another way to reach their fans. Meanwhile, it will also help to increase their listeners and stream counts during the process.

Spotify may not be the huge benefitted here, but GIPHY could definitely be. A huge number of popular artists, including the already onboard ones, would visit the platform and increase its visitors count.
