New Android TV Update Brings Better Content Management & Recommendations

Android TV

A new update is rolling for Android TV users. Notably, the new Android TV update borrows a feature from Google TV which will help users with better content management and recommendations.

With the new Android TV update, users can now finally maintain a watchlist from the Discover tap of their favorite TV shows, series, or movies. According to Android Central, Google says the new update will go live for every Android TV user in the coming week.

Apparently, you will find a lot of similarities in this new Android TV content management feature with the likes of My List or My Stuff on Netflix and Hulu, respectively.

The watchlist will keep a track of all the movies and shows that you might be interested in check out later. Besides, you will find all of your favorite content in one place.

Moreover, users will be able to add content from various streaming platforms onto a single list. This means if your favorite show is on Hulu, and your favorite movie is on Netflix, you can add them to the watchlist with no issues.

You can also manage this watchlist on any Android device using the Google TV app or Google Search.

Android TV Watchlist will provide you details about the show or movie

Android TV’s new update that adds the Watchlist option, will provide you with more details about the show or movie that you wish to add so that you have more info regarding the content.

Additionally, the details page is also getting revamped. Now, a trailer or an associated video of the content will play. This will help you get a glimpse of what to expect from the show or movie and based on that you can decide if you want to add it to your watchlist or not.

The trailer or the associated video will start running automatically. So, it is recommended that you have a check the volume levels of your TV. You don’t want to blow off your ears or scare yourself.

Google says this feature is added to provide its users a “cinematic experience.” The good thing is you can toggle this feature on or off by heading over to Settings > Device Preferences > Home Screen and selecting “Enable video previews.”

Last but not the least, if you are not an ardent fan of what you see on the Discover tab, Google is making it easy for you to fine-tune the recommendations based on your taste.

The new update also includes a new content preferences option. Here, you can simply swipe right or left on different shows or movies (Yes! Just like you do on Tinder).

This will allow Google to get a better understanding of your preferences and would recommend content based on that. You can trigger this setting on by navigating to Settings > Device Preferences > Home Screen > Content Preferences.
