Google Meet Personal Gmail Calls Gets Filters & Fun Masks Like Duo

Video calling is one word that you might have heard more often during the pandemic. Zoom emerged as the go-to video calling app not only for the workplace but for personal use as well.

To beat that, Google started focussing heavily on Google Meet. And now, the app is getting some fun filters and masks like Google Duo.

Though the market still leans towards Zoom for feeding their video calling needs, Google Meet is also a capable competitor. With the addition of new filters and fun masks, users may as well enjoy video calling.

The point here is the Google Meet filters and fun masks are similar to what Google already has on Duo. Moreover, only personal Gmail users can use these filters and masks during calls.

All the new features are available for the Google Meet app on both Android and iOS. According to an official tweet by Google (via 9To5Google), in order to view the filters and masks, you need to tap on the sparkle in the bottom right corner of the video screen.

This will move your call to fullscreen and you will be able to see a scrollable “Effect” sheet. Additionally, you also get two blur options and a bunch of backgrounds like you have on enterprise and education accounts.

Google Meet fun masks let you turn your face into Cat, Dog, purple Elephant & more

The new update also adds B&W “Styles” and lens flare along with filters. Using filters, you can turn your face into a cat, dog, a purple elephant, and other characters.

Besides, you can endlessly scroll on the bottom carousel and jump between sections. Many filters, as already mentioned, are a copy of what you have on Google Duo.

Interestingly, Google Duo hasn’t received any meaningful update in the recent past. It seems as if Google is purely focussing on making Google Meet the true competitor of the Zoom app.

These Google Meet filters and masks are already live for the app users. Further, it is also rolling out for Google Meet integrated version as well.

One important thing, you need to connect a call using your @gmail.com and not use a Workspace account. Like Google Duo, you now also get a Google Meet “branded logo” on the top-left of your video feed.

However, folks at 9To5Google weren’t able to see this new logo addition in their brief time of testing. You can update the Google Meet from the Play Store to enjoy these features.
