You Can Download June 2021 Security Update On Your Pixel Smartphone Now

Google is now rolling out the June 2021 Android Security Patch to all Pixel devices.

This is the monthly security update that Google sends out to its devices and it shares with its partners. But for Pixel owners, this also includes some new features. As it’s finally time for that next Pixel Feature Drop!

What’s been fixed in this patch?

Google fixed a ton of vulnerabilities in the June 2021 security patch for Pixel and other Android devices.

As per usual, Google has not detailed each vulnerability. This is done on purpose so that those that have not received the update (which right now, is everyone) is not the victim of an attack. Detailing the vulnerabilities is like giving the keys to hackers, to your device. So this is done to protect everyone. But there are a ton of changes made to Qualcomm and MediaTek devices, as well as vulnerabilities in the Android Runtime and more.

There’s no new features in this update, as the Pixel Feature Drop happened last month, so we don’t expect to see another until June. As those feature drops are set to be quarterly and not monthly.

What devices are supported in the June 2021 security patch?

The June 2021 security patch is rolling out to Pixel devices now. And it supports the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and Pixel 4a. The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 should both come with the June 2021 security update installed when they go on sale later this month. If not, there should be an update available out of the box.

The Verizon versions of the Pixel 3, Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 will be rolling out later this week.

Most smartphones released in the last two to three years will also be supported. You’ll need to wait for your smartphone manufacturer to roll out the update though.

Make sure to update your Pixel device as soon as you get this update, and don’t put it off. Security updates are not great for putting off til later on.
