Windows 11 Leaks Point To A Possible Launch Soon

Windows 10 has been Microsoft’s flagship operating system since it was released back in 2015. Six years later, we know that a refreshed version of Windows 10, dubbed “Sun Valley”, is in the works. Along with this, there have also been a bunch of Windows 11 leaks that point to big changes in the overall aesthetic and direction of Windows.

Some of the Windows 11 leaks were from Microsoft itself

Companies often drop tongue-in-cheek references to future releases to tease their audiences. Microsoft is no different. The company dropped some clever hints that allude to the next big step in the Windows timeline. For a more subtle hint, there’s an image that shows the current windows logo, with the “window” off the left of the image, and the light that’s hitting the ground almost forms an 11.

If that hint seems a bit far-fetched, the company also shared a video on June 9th. The video consisted of Windows startup sounds that were slowed down to about 4000%. What was significant about this was the fact that the video was 11 minutes in length.

Rounding out this dangling yarn ball of hints is the fact that Microsoft’s next Windows event is to take place on June 24th this month at (you guessed it) 11 am EST. It seems like Microsoft is playing it fast and loose with its hints.

The fact that Windows 11 is even in the works comes as a surprise to most people because the company came out and said that it has no plans to develop a Windows 11. Microsoft stated this back in 2015 with the launch of Windows 10. Either the company has had a change of heart or someone in the company really has the number 11 on the brain.

The Windows 11 leaks indicate some major UI changes

What’s a major OS update without some big changes to the user interface. Leaks throughout the community point to a different font that will adorn the UI. Currently, it’s using a font called Calibri. This won’t blow many people away, to be honest.

What people may react to is the rumored position of the start button and icons. They are rumored to move to the middle, much like that of macOS or ChromeOS. Apparently, centered icons are the way of the future. Keeping this in mind, it’s entirely possible and easy to set your Windows 10 taskbar up to look like this. Microsoft even baked it into Windows 10 officially.

For the next UI change, it looks like Microsoft will be taking a page out of Google’s book. Windows 11 is rumored to have UI elements with rounded corners. In Windows 10, everything from the icons to the start menu to popup menus is sharp and rectangular.  With Windows 11, it looks like things will take on the rounded corners and bubbly aesthetic that we’re seeing in Android 12.

What features are we looking at?

Expected features include being able to see battery statistics, being able to uninstall preloaded applications, better snap assistance for external displays, and improved tablet mode gestures. We might see an announcement for Windows 11 during Microsoft’s event later this month.
