The Designed For Xbox Program Will Now Include Displays

Designed For Xbox Displays

Microsoft is expanding its Designed For Xbox program to include displays, the company announced earlier this week. The new initiative is intended to help consumers more easily identify TVs and monitors that support features of the Xbox Series X / S.

According to the Xbox Wire blog post, these TVs will “unlock the true power of HDMI 2.1” for the new consoles. Though displays that support HDMI 2.1 already exist, these new Designed for Xbox displays will come with a special badge to indicate the support. And likely a few extra features.

Microsoft is already working with a few brands on products too. This currently includes one display from ASUS, one from Philips, and one from Acer. But, don’t expect them to be affordable. In fact, if you want one of these new displays for your equally new Xbox, you’ll be paying a premium.

New Designed For Xbox displays will hit this Summer

Well, one of them anyway. Starting this Summer, consumers will be able to pick up the Philips Momentum Display. This is a 55-inch display that comes with a built-in soundbar that was engineered by Bowers & Wilkins. So audio is probably going to be pretty good for when you want to play games without a headset.

The display is also 4K and it supports a 120Hz refresh rate. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro is on board as well, as is HDMI 2.1. Microsoft says it will sell this display globally, and in the US it’ll retail for $1,599.99. It’s pricey, but then again so are most or all HDMI 2.1 displays right now. And at least this one was produced in partnership with Xbox.

Two more displays arrive this Fall

If you’re not looking for something as big as what Philips is offering, the other two options arrive this Fall. But neither of those will be cheap either.

The 28-inch monitor from Acer will retail for $949.99 and will land sometime towards the end of the year. Xbox hasn’t listed a specific drop time and Acer doesn’t have it mentioned on the monitor’s buy page. Then there’s the ASUS ROG Strix Xbox Edition gaming monitor.

This is a 43-inch display and will arrive in October of this year for $1,399.99. While Microsoft has only announced these three displays so far, the company says more will be on the way.
