Local DJ Leng Yein Loses Almost RM11,000 To A Credit Card Fraud

It isn’t uncommon to know about scams and frauds in this day and age. As unfortunate as it is, the knowledge is necessary to avoid being scammed or defrauded. Sadly, no matter how careful we are, sometimes, it can still happen.

On 23rd June, DJ Leng Yein (林云) announced she had lost nearly RM 11,000 thanks to credit card fraud. The local internet celebrity spoke about it at length in a video which she posted on YouTube.

The 36-year-old revealed that this was not the first time she had experienced credit card fraud. In an attempt to decrease her chances of being defrauded, Leng Yein had limited herself to only one credit card. She added that the amount set on the card was “very low”, however, it was futile. The local DJ reported losing RM 10,951.63. Leng Yein stated that she knows at least 10 friends who experienced the same, one of whom is her sister.

The DJ only noticed something was wrong when the bank sent her a notice about late fees on her card. She found this strange as she hadn’t used the card for several months. Leng Yein added that she has always been on time with her fees. When she got in touch with the bank, she discovered that her card had been stolen. It was heartbreaking, but Leng Yein also feels that the fault lies with her. According to the DJ, she should have been checking her credit card bill routinely.

Leng Yein stated that she does not do online shopping, but she knows one should be careful when using a credit card on an online platform. The DJ advised people to be alert about their card. “Be sure to pay more attention to your bank card usage records,” she said. “If you find anything suspicious, you must contact your bank immediately so that you will (avoid) ending up in debt.

Although Leng Yein urged people to take the matter to the police if happens to them, she will not be taking her own advice. The DJ admitted she was “lazy” to leave the house during MCO. She said she would try to check her cards transaction records and hope for the best. “If it is confirmed that I didn’t use (the card), maybe they will refund me,” she stated.

The local celebrity has unfortunately been out of work for nearly two years. However, she is not complaining about her situation and is merely viewing it as an unlucky incident. We hope she gets her refund!
