Samsung is preparing to launch two new smartwatches in the coming months – the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch Active 4. These two watches will arrive as the successors to last year’s Galaxy Watch 3 and the Galaxy Watch Active 2 from a year earlier. However, the upcoming wearables will bring plenty of changes to the table. We already know Samsung is ditching its Tizen OS in favor of Google’s Wear OS for the new watches. It appears an extensive amount of changes will apply to the devices’ exterior as well, at least to that of the Watch Active 4.
Freshly-leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 4 show a new minimal design. The device gets flatter edges around the circular display, which is said to be protected by a flat 2D glass. The two physical buttons on the right also now appear to be thinner and more protruding. The strap now tightly connects to the watch, leaving no gap around the connector, as the Watch Active 2 did. Last but not least, the band fasteners also get a design overhaul to compliment the watch’s new look.
As has been the case with the previous models in the Watch Active series, there’s no rotating bezel on the Watch Active 4 as well. It’s unclear though whether Samsung plans to offer a virtual rotating bezel. Previous models featured one but they were powered by the Tizen OS. With the company switching to Wear OS for the new model, we are not sure if it keeps that feature.
Galaxy Watch Active 4 will get an aluminum frame
The latest report claims the Galaxy Watch Active 4 will get an aluminum frame. It will be powered by a new 5nm processor and come in 40mm and 44mm sizes. The report also adds that Samsung will offer the watch in four color options: black, silver, green, and gold. However, it notes that the color shades shown in the renders may not be accurate. And that appears to be true as the gold color variant (see featured image above) should get shades of pink as well. Nonetheless, these leaked Galaxy Watch Active 4 renders suggest a major design overhaul. We cannot wait to see more of them.
It’s unclear when Samsung plans to unveil its next-gen smartwatches. The company has promised to say something about them during its keynote at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) next week. The devices may not go official until August though. Stay tuned as we bring to you all the latest happenings around the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4 in the coming days.
