Google wants to allow users to have more control over personalized ads by easy opt-out. After much criticism of Google’s privacy procedures on Android, the company has invested heavily in enhancing Android’s privacy capabilities.
Google has released an announcement that describes the new changes that will start in late 2021. Google previously invented the advertising ID to allow developers to make money with ads and gives users control to disable ads any time they want.
According to the new rules for developers, “when a user opts out of interest-based advertising or ads personalization, the advertising identifier will not be available. You will receive a string of zeros in place of the identifier.”
Google will notify developers when a user wants to opt-out of personalized ads. Previously, the ad ID was visible to the developers, which could violate users’ privacy. But by the new rules, ‘any attempts to access the identifier will receive a string of zeros instead of the identifier.”
Of course, Google hasn’t forgotten the developers. The company promised to develop an alternative solution for what it calls “essential use cases.” These cases could be analytics and fraud prevention.
The apps that will run on Android 12 are at the forefront to comply with these new rules. Next year, all apps in the Play Store should follow this procedure for app release. You can access opt-out options through the Settings menu via apps, then Google, then Ads.

The discussions around privacy in Android have always been a controversial topic between Google and users. Google says it has always protected its users’ privacy. Users, on the other hand, believe that Google and apps are violating their privacy.
What makes users pessimistic about Google is that the company has a lousy track record of protecting users’ privacy. In the latest case, it was revealed that Google was illegally collecting users’ location data. Also, the company has deliberately made it more complicated and vague to disable location tracking on Android.
Google’s move comes after Apple has disabled default access to user data for developers. Under Apple’s new rules, developers must obtain user permission to access their data. Well, it seems that Google is applying a similar process on Android.
