Galaxy Chromebook Go Official With Intel Celeron CPU, LTE Connectivity

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go

Samsung has quietly unveiled its latest Chrome OS device, the Galaxy Chromebook Go. The company has not officially announced the new laptop yet but its specs have been published, along with tons of images.

Galaxy Chromebook Go specifications

The Galaxy Chromebook Go is an affordable laptop featuring an Intel Celeron N4500 processor. It is a dual-core 10nm chipset clocked between 1.1 and 2.8GHz. The device gets 4GB/8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB of eMMC storage. Samsung is offering a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage.

On the front is a 14-inch TFT LCD screen with an HD (1366 x 768 pixels) resolution. That’s a bit disappointing from Samsung considering that the Galaxy Chromebook Go is a 2021 device. However, the company is somewhat making up for a poor display resolution with fairly modern connectivity options. You get support for LTE connectivity (nano-SIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, two USB Type-C (Gen 2) ports, a USB 3.2 Type-A (Gen 1) port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a nano security slot.

Other key specs/features include a TKL (tenkeyless) keyboard, a large trackpad, support for a 720p webcam, and 15W stereo speakers. The device packs a 42.3Wh battery with Samsung offering a 45W USB Type-C charger in the box.

While these specs make for a decent affordable Chrome OS laptop, the Galaxy Chromebook Go isn’t very attractive in terms of design. There are chunky bezels around the display, while the silver paint job on the outside makes for a dull look. It isn’t the thinnest or lightest of Chromebooks out there either. The device has a dimension of 327.1 x 225.6 x 15.9mm and weighs 1.45Kg.

Samsung’s first-ever Chromebook, for instance, is 9.9mm thick and weighs just above 1Kg. The Galaxy Chromebook 2, meanwhile, has a thickness of 13.9mm and weighs 1.23Kg. Of course, these are high-end models while the Galaxy Chromebook Go is an affordable alternative.

Price and availability

Samsung launched the original Galaxy Chromebook in January last year. It was a flagship model priced at a whopping $1,000. The company followed up with the Chromebook 2 earlier this year. The second-gen model made multiple compromises for a lower launch price of $700.

The Galaxy Chromebook Go is now here to make Samsung’s Chromebook lineup even more affordable. While the company has yet to officially announce the pricing and availability details of the new device, it could sell well below the $400 mark. The new Chromebook comes in a single Silver color option. You can expect the device to go on sale in the coming weeks.
