Xperia XA ‘super mid-range’ phone has edge-to-edge curved display

Out of the three Sony Xperia X series announced today, we have to give the Xperia XA (F3111, F3113, F3115) and Xperia XA Dual (F3112, F3116) the award for best looks. The Xperia XA features a 5-inch 720p edge-to-edge curved display seamlessly meeting the rounded frame. This gives it a premium look and earns it the ‘super mid-range’ tag that Sony is adorning it with. Judging by the specs, however, it is clear that the Xperia XA is the entry model within the Xperia X series.

The camera performance is a step removed from that found in the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance. There is no predictive hybrid autofocus here, just hybrid autofocus. Camera duties are taken care of with a 13MP rear Exmor RS (IMX258) sensor, whilst the front-facing camera has an 8MP Exmor R (IMX219) sensor.

The Sony Xperia XA uses a MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) chipset with 2.0GHz octa-core processor and Mali-T860 GPU. It has paired this with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and microSD memory card support. There is no metal used in the Xperia XA, with Sony opting for a plastic finish.

Sony has equipped this handset with a two-day battery life, which has a capacity of 2300mAh. This is the lowest of all of the X series, but it does incorporate Qnovo’s QNS adaptive charging as seen in the other Xperia X family. This should mean a longer lasting battery lifetime and faster charging.

The Xperia XA will launch in summer 2016, in four colours (White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold and Rose Gold). No pricing has been announced at this stage.
