Quite a few phones are still waiting on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update, one of which is the DROID Turbo 2 from Motorola and Verizon Wireless. Initially, the software rollout for Marshmallow was supposed to start arriving on the DROID Turbo 2 earlier this month according to the details posted on Verizon’s support page, however it was later discovered that the information regarding the update may have been posted early. Following the first reports that the software was supposed to begin hitting devices, a soak test for the software started rolling out to a number of DROID Turbo 2 owners just last Saturday.
Now it seems that the soak test may have gone smoothly as Verizon has reposted the details stating the official update rollout for Android 6.0 Marshmallow is to begin on March 1st, alongside all of the information on what the update includes so Verizon subscribers can be aware of what to look out for once the update starts to reach their device. Among the changes will be features like Doze Mode, more granular permissions control, app standby, direct share, and of course, Now On Tap, which lets users access contextual information from inside the app they’re currently using, whether it be a website in Chrome or another browser or an app like Facebook.
There are also of crouse a list of Motorola-specific changes that you won’t find on other Marshmallow devices from different OEMs, including the migration from Ambient Display to Moto Display, and the new integration of Moto Assist into various features like Do Not Disturb and Driving and Places. Users will likely also notice that Moto Actions now integrates Attentive Display which dims the screen whenever the user is looking away from it. The update to Marshmallow is likely to be rather large in file size, which is why Verizon recommends that you connect to WiFi if you don’t have a strong connection to the Verizon Wireless network before you start to download the update files. It’s also worth noting that the update will not hit all devices at the same time and will probably be rolling out to users in batches starting from the 1st.
