There are many navigation apps available, but Waze differentiates from the rest because users can submit all kinds of road alerts to improve everyone’s driving experience. Last October, Waze got a whole new look and additional features, but those were only available for iOS devices. Android users were promised to receive all of these improvements back then, and recently, some images and a video of the revamped version were spotted running on an Android device, so it seemed that the new version of the app was approaching its release. Today, the company announced Waze 4.0 for Android on their official YouTube channel.
The new app features a new interface based on a brighter color scheme to improve the visibility of most of its elements. The new UI also features many new animations, some of them follow the guidelines of the Material Design language, but the app looks very similar to the one from iOS. Still, this is good news, as the current version is already looking a little dated. Besides the new look of the app, its functionality has also been improved, there is a brand new menu on the left, so users can access their destinations and other settings more quickly. Reporting an incident will be easier, as the new panel features larger icons and they are now color-coded for each type of incident. The alert system features new animations, making them more visible and clearer to read. The process to share an ETA has been simplified, users can now set their favorite contact on the bottom panel and send their ETA in just one tap.
At the end of the video, it is mentioned that the new Waze is coming soon to Android, making it clear that the new app is not available just yet. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long before it becomes available as an update on the Play Store. In the meantime, if you want to change a few aspects of your current app to make it a little more fun to use, you can get Morgan Freeman’s voice to read navigational directions on Waze.
