The 88th Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) took place last night in Los Angeles. Snapchat, typically has “sponsored” stories for events like this, where those at the event can Snap away and all their public snaps will go into that story. It’s a great way to catch up with the show if you’re not able to watch it. Snapchat Stories have been around for quite some time. Essentially they allow users to snap away and share them with anyone that follows them. However, they were limited to just the app. As of today, that’s changing. Snapchat Stories have come to the browser, starting with the 2016 Oscars.
Now Snapchat hasn’t stated whether or not this is just for the Oscars, or would be something they are doing going forward. It would be a great way to expand their audience and their reach, to bring Snapchat stories to the web. Because not everyone wants to watch them on their phone using the app. It’s something that Instagram did not too long ago. Made their website able to allow users to scroll through their timeline, however they are still unable to post from the web, unfortunately. Who knows if this will be available for other stories, but for now you can go through the Oscars story on their site and check out what you might have missed last night from LA.
Snapchat is a pretty interesting social network. It basically consists of you sending pictures and images that last for a maximum of 10 seconds and then they are gone forever. Videos can be as long as about 8 seconds, which is great for sending something really quick. You can Snaps to other users or share them publicly. Those that are shared publicly are available on your story for the next 24 hours. So on the right screen, users will see your story, if they have added you. This is a great way for others to keep up with you. There are plenty of celebrities using Snapchat as well as websites like Android Headlines (be sure to add us, obviously!). If you haven’t already, you can download Snapchat from the Google Play Store for free.
