LG G5 innovates with modular design



LG G5_1We like to keep abreast with what the competition is doing and to that end LG has just announced the G5. LG’s latest flagship catches the eye with an innovative modular design, allowing users to slide out the bottom part of the phone and swap parts to change the battery or bolster usability for the camera/music.

The camera module is called the LG CAM Plus, proving physical buttons for the power, shutter, record and zoom, whilst also including additional 1200mAh battery capacity. The LG Hi-Fi Plus audio module has been made in partnership with Bang & Olufsen and uses 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC upsampling technology.

Other unique features include a dual camera lens setup on the rear, one with a 135-degree wide angle lens, which LG says is 15 degrees wider than a human’s field of view. The second camera lens has a standard 78-degree lens.

Then there is the always-on display that keeps a third of the IPS display switched on in sleep mode to show the time and other notifications. Whist this may create concerns over battery life, LG says that this feature only uses 0.8% of battery per hour.

Other hardware specs almost take a back seat, it is clear that manufacturers are trying to engage customers through the experience they create rather than worrying about pure specifications. Regardless, the LG G5 does not fall short, sporting an aluminium body, a Snapdragon 820 chipset and 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS Quantum Display (2560 x 1440 / 554ppi).

Other specs include 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB UFS internal storage, microSD memory card, 8MP front camera and 2,800mAh removable battery. The LG G5 will arrive in four colours (Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink).

The LG G5 is one of the most innovative Android offerings we have seen for a while and it will be interesting to see how Sony will respond when it launches its flagship later in the year.
