Google Store Now Includes Dedicated Virtual Reality Section

Virtual reality continues to be headline news with a number of announcements on the platform coming through. Last week saw Coca-Cola starting to experiment with the idea of turning their packaging into VR headsets. While McDonald’s essentially are starting the same promotion next Saturday in Sweden, with a number of their Happy Meal boxes also seeing the ability to be turned into VR headsets. Not forgetting that in a number of regions, the more advanced HTC Vive has now hit a pre-order status. With so much continued virtual reality news coming through and new products beginning to launch, it is only a matter of time before online shops start congregating all the products into dedicated VR sections. Much like Google has now done today.

It seems the Google Store has now opened a dedicated virtual reality section on their site. Much like the Android Wear or Android TV sections, the new virtual reality section offers a quick breakdown of the platform including information on what type of content you can expect, before going on to list a number of options that you can now buy direction from the Google Store.

At the moment, the variety of headsets on offer are a little limited and entirely consists of the main Google-affiliated options. So as to be expected, you can now purchase Google’s own Cardboard which will currently cost you $15. Or you can opt for Mattel’s View-Master for $29.99, as well as Google’s Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer, which will set you back $14.99. While the selection is certainly towards the more basic side, it is expected that in due course the selection will grow continuously and more wider. Again, much like the Android Wear and Android TV sections. Either way, the introduction of the dedicated virtual reality section by Google does further highlight both the continued wider industry interest in VR and of course, Google’s personal continued interest. Which according to the most recent rumors will see the Search giant bringing two new VR-related products to the market over the course of the next year. One in the form of a Cardboard refresh and the other a new standalone virtual reality headset.
