No fingerprint sensor in US Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact models

At least a couple of tech websites are reporting that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact handsets, which are due to launch early next month in the United States, will be stripped of one of its key features – the fingerprint sensor. Both Computerworld and The Verge have heard from a Sony US spokesperson that fingerprint technology will not feature in the US-bound Xperia Z5 models.

To back this up, Sony has removed any reference to fingerprint technology on the US Xperia Z5 product page. However, somewhat confusingly, the US page for the Xperia Z5 Compact has the fingerprint sensor still listed in its spec-sheet. We’re perplexed on the reasons behind any removal of the sensor, but we have reached out to our contacts at Sony to verify this information and will update the post once we hear back.
