Cascading ice caves, Action Cam at 11,000ft & 2015 PlayStation® Awards

Sony put on its snow boots this week and travelled to Norway for a slippery trek. Wanting to get a closer look at some of Mother Nature’s rarest sights, Sony joined forces with photographer Mikael Buck and renowned local guides Einar Runar Sigurdsson and Helen Maria to explore the true beauty of the caves of Vatnajokull, one of the largest glaciers in Europe. myqbsfltgnrblg8ik28c

The breath-taking images were captured using Sony’s latest digital cameras including the α7R II featuring the world first back-illuminated full-frame sensor which brings together ultra-high resolution and ultra-high sensitivity, the RX10 II and RX100 IV which feature the world’s first 1.0 type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor. From cascading waterfalls to icy tunnels, you can check out all the amazing photographs for yourself.

Our friends over at Action Cam were off to a flying start this week, as they joined forces with renowned director Gregg Hackett to create the latest instalment in the ‘Never Before Seen’ series – Thin Air. Wanting to break world records, together they sent a consumer drone higher than a drone has ever gone before (11,000ft!) capturing its journey on three fearless Action Cam by Sony.

The team also worked with Ben Sturgess, a man of many talents, (electrical engineer, designer and brainchild behind the custom made drone) and after weeks of research and planning, the drone could take to the sky at an extreme altitude.

But were records broken? Check it out for yourself in the gravity defying video below:
