Samsung Gear S2 Available Across Canada

The first part of September, Samsung Canada announced that the new Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic would make their way into Canada in October. Originally available for pre-order through Best Buy, a recent press release shows the Gear 2 models can now be purchased at Samsung Experience Stores, Telus and other major retailers. Best Buy is still showing a ship date of October 30, so our source has reached out to Samsung to find out the availability at the other retailers.

The Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S Classic are the first rounded-faced smartwatch for the company that up until this point has always used a rather large rectangle design. This is what JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business said about the Gear S2: “For the past several years, Samsung has pioneered and advanced the wearables category, bringing brave new concepts to the smart wearables market. The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung’s most progressive innovation. It is the perfect complement for any occasion, easily taking you from day to night, from work to workout—and ensuring that you get more out of every moment in your day, by making it smarter and ultimately more personal and fun.”

The Gear S2 is designed to attract the young and athletic type – those that are on-the-go and looking for a more “minimalistic and modern” look. It is available in both silver and black and costs $399. The Gear 2 Classic is for the crowd looking for a more “timeless” and elegant design – complete with a genuine leather wristband. The Gear S2 Classic is available only in the color black, and it will cost you $449. It is only 11.4 mm thick with a 1.2-inch circular display and a resolution of 360 x 360 with 302 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It is running the latest Tizen OS and it uses Samsung’s Exynos dual-core processor clocked at 1.0 GHz with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. It also includes a 250 mAh battery that Samsung says can sustain the device through three days of regular use. It also sports an NFC radio that will allow you to use Samsung Pay to make purchases with you smartwatch, which we are hoping Samsung will be bringing to Canada in the near future.
