Samsung Galaxy S7 has been rumored for quite some time now. Samsung has announced their flagship phablets back in August, and we’ve been seeing Galaxy S7 rumors popping up for weeks now. Anyhow, the Galaxy S7 is expected to arrive in February or March, so it might be too soon for rumors, but that doesn’t stop them from coming. About a week ago, a rumor popped up saying that the Galaxy S7 might come with ‘Force Touch’ display we’ve seen on the Mate S and iPhone 6S / 6S Plus already. Well, Samsung’s new patent actually adds more gasoline to that fire, read more.
Samsung has submitted a patent called ‘Touch Input Apparatus and Eletronic Device Having Thereof’ back in April 2014. Well, this patent has been published by the Korean Intellectual Property Office for all of us to see. This is basically a ‘Force Touch’ or ‘3D Touch’ tech, whatever you want to call it. It basically does the same thing, it lets the display differentiate how strong you push down on it in order to do a certain action in collaboration with the installed software. The patent description also says that Samsung wants to use this tech in order to make one key perform different functions. This essentially means that this Korea-based tech giant want to use a tap on the display as one function, and strong tap as another. We’ve already seen this function on Apple’s iPhone 6S / 6S Plus devices, it basically sounds like the same thing.
Now, the patent doesn’t exactly mention the Galaxy S7, of course, it was submitted back in April 2014. But, considering how interesting ‘Force Touch’ is these days, we do expect to see quite a few smartphone OEMs include it in their devices. Samsung will almost certainly be amongst those manufacturers, and it is realistic to expect that the Galaxy S7 will sport such a display. We’ve seen a number of leaks pointing in this direction, and after all, it makes sense. Now, it is possible that Samsung intends to release a whole new line of devices where they’ll include this tech, but Galaxy S7 actually seems like the most probable unit to sport it. Either way, we’ll see, stay tuned for more info.
