LG and Google’s Nexus 5X Goes On Sale in ‘Key Markets’ Today

Over the summer, we had been hearing rumors of new Nexus devices from two different suppliers, and at the end of last month the picture became clear. Both Huawei and LG would be offering Nexus devices with the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, respectively. Our reviews for both will go live later today, but LG has been in touch to let us know that their Nexus, a remix on the original Nexus 5 which was extremely popular. The Nexus 5X is the smaller of the two Nexus devices, featuring a 1080p 5.2-inch display along with a Snapdragon 808 and 2GB of RAM, but it also features a much more attractive price tag when compared with the Nexus 6P.

In North America, we know that Google is more than happy to keep the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P away from carriers, but the Nexus 6P is available from Huawei directly. Back to the Nexus 5X and LG’s latest release says that “major carriers and retailers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, India, Korea and Japan will make the device available to the general public.” Whether or not that United States mention is a typo on LG’s part is unclear, but in the UK and elsewhere, other retailers have been listing the Nexus 5X for sale for a little while now. As for other markets throughout “Europe, Asia and Latin America” will the new Nexus 5 roll out in the coming weeks, according to LG.

Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications had this to say: “the Nexus 5X designed from the ground up to live up to the expectations of the millions of Android purists worldwide who won’t accept second best. After two successful collaborations, we think customers will agree that this is our best Nexus to date.” It’s unsurprising to hear LG talk up their latest, but Juno’s take on the Nexus line is intriguing overall: “Nexus devices are about having the newest, purest Android experience possible in an advanced package that doesn’t break the bank.” This wasn’t true last year, when the Nexus 6 cost the same as many other flagships on the market, and the Huawei Nexus 6P is dangerously close to costing the same as well, but we’re sure LG doesn’t really want to talk about Huawei’s first Nexus.
