Google Giving out Instant Invites to Project Fi, Today

To celebrate the Google Nexus 5X shipping, the Project Fi team is giving out instant invites today only. So if you’ve been looking to get your hands on an invite and haven’t gotten one just yet, now’s the time to grab one. The Project Fi team has updated the site to allow for instant invites. So just sign up for an invite on their site, and you should have your invite within a few minutes. Much faster than it had been for getting a Project Fi invite. Project Fi works with the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. Additionally, it unofficially works on the Moto X Pure Edition.

Once you get your invite, you can go through the process of ordering your SIM card. If you need a supported device, you can buy one during the process, this also gives you the option to do a payment plan for either the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P. Alternatively, you can also choose to just get a SIM card which will be shipped to you for free. However, during the checkout process, you will be setting up auto-pay for your account. So you won’t have to worry about forgetting to pay your Project Fi bill ever.

Project Fi is an MVNO that uses both Sprint and T-Mobile’s network as well as WiFi, and switches between the three of them automatically. Google has its own VPN now that works for Project Fi, so this way when you are on an insecure network, you are still safe and so is your information. Calls and texts are made over WiFi, which if you’ve been using Google Voice, this shouldn’t be a new thing for you. One of the cooler aspects of Project Fi is the data. While you can buy as much data as you want, rated at $10 per gigabit, whatever data you don’t use, you get an account credit for. So for instance, if you buy 3GB, but only use 1GB of data, you will get a refund for that 2GB that was unused, which is around $20. Not a bad idea.
