The Sony Mobile Xperia Z3 Compact won rave reviews and high user satisfaction levels last year by combining flagship specs in a smaller form factor. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see Sony launch a successor in the form of the Xperia Z5 Compact (E5803, E5823) at IFA 2015.
Much like last year’s model, the Xperia Z5 Compact has a 4.6-inch 720 x 1280 resolution display. This equates to a 319 PPI pixel density and screen-to-phone ratio of 70.66%, marginally behind the Xperia Z3 Compact at 70.77%. However, the new Xperia flagship ‘compact’ is now powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and sports the same 1/2.3-inch 23MP Exmor RS rear camera with F2.0 G-Lens and 24mm wide-angle lens found in the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium.
Other changes over last year’s model include a fingerprint sensor power button, 32GB internal storage (21.7GB usable), a 2700mAh ‘two-day’ battery (versus 2600mAh for the Xperia Z3 Compact), capless USB charging and a 5.1MP front-facing camera (versus 2.2MP) with 25mm wide-angle lens.
Other key specifications include 2GB RAM, microSD memory card support, IP65/IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, High-Resolution Audio and Digital Noise Cancellation (DNC), Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0.
As with the Xperia Z5, the Z5 Compact includes a frosted glass finish on the rear and the XPERIA logo etched on the side frame. The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has dimensions of 127 x 65 x 8.9mm and weighs 138 grams. It will be available in four colours (Graphite Black, White, Yellow and Coral) when it launches in October 2015.
