Samsung’s new tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2, will be available on Sprint from Thursday, September 3rd onwards, the carrier has announced. T-Mobile revealed last week that the LTE enabled versions of the Tab S2 will be available on its network starting September 3rd, while Samsung started taking pre-orders for the Wi-Fi-only variants late last month. While the tablet is originally available in two different screen sizes (8-inch and 9.7-inch) Sprint has let it be known that it will be stocking only the 9.7-inch version, at least for now. The device will cost $648 at full retail, meaning no contracts or monthly installments. Another option for payment involves a two year contract, whereby the device will cost $100 less than its full retail value. Sprint however, will also offer a third option, whereby, the device can be had for zero down payment and then paid off in 24 equal monthly installments of $27 each.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 is the successor to the Galaxy Tab S from last year, and as mentioned already, comes in two different size options – one with an 8-inch screen, and the other with a larger, 9.7-inch display. Both the variants come with almost identical hardware for the most part, with the only differences lying in the screen size and battery power. Otherwise, both devices come with 4:3 aspect ratios and feature Super AMOLED displays with 2048 x 1536 resolution. The Galaxy Tab S2 is powered by an Exynos 5433 processor, which is designed in-house by Samsung, and contains an integrated octa-core CPU. The tablet comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage, depending on the variant. Both devices also come with microSD card slots for capacity expansion.
Coming to the connectivity options, while Wi-fi-only variants are available and already up for pre-order, the ones available at Sprint will have support for LTE, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Hotspot. The Galaxy Tab S2 also supports Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS along with a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data syncing. The tablets come with 8-megapixel cameras on the rear and a 2.1-megapixel cameras on the front. The battery on the larger device is a hefty 5,870 mAh unit, while the smaller tablet carries a 4,000 mAh unit.
