I’ve been planning a Universal Studios Singapore holiday for some time, and was looking for accommodation with comfort and convenience, without the Sentosa price tag. Thankfully, I found this newly opened hotel located right in the heart of Jurong East.
Words: Irvin Hanni
Upon entering the hotel driveway, I was immediately captivated by the colourful neo-pop sculpture of a girl and her two fishes in front of the entrance. I was told that it was done by Brazillian artist Romero Britto, and there are more of his beautiful works at Sentosa Island, as he was commissioned by Resorts World Sentosa (RSW) which owns Genting Hotel Jurong as well as several other hotels and attractions in Singapore.
Inside the bright and airy lobby, the friendly front desk officers handled my check-in with ease and efficiency. I was escorted to the thirteenth floor of my Deluxe room. The view of the well-landscaped Jurong Country Club and the surrounding areas definitely did not disappoint, and provided a blissful feeling when I say good night to the city, and when I wake up every morning.
All rooms come with the usual amenities including a flat screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, coffee and tea facility, in-room safe, towels, as well as toiletries. Dominated by a beige hue, the room was held together by laminated wood flooring, heavy drapes, and cream-coloured walls, giving a sense of serenity, and furnished with colourful and patterned furniture, wallpaper and carpeting for extra zest. The king-sized bed was very inviting, with comfy duvet and four super soft pillows providing me with a very relaxing sleep.
Bonus point: there are power sockets that can plug in the typical Singapore-standard plug as well as USB ports around the bedhead, so I was able to charge my phone whilst mindlessly browsing the internet before falling into deep slumber. How convenient is that?
Buffet breakfast is available at the Festive Café from 7am until 10am. Guests can enjoy continental fare like cereals, salad, pastries and cakes, coffee and tea, juice, as well as local Singaporean delights like fried mee hoon and porridge. To my delight, there were two Japanese-style vending machines near the café that offer cup noodles, chocolates, travel essentials, maps, and more.
To bask in the tropical South East Asian weather, I went for a dip at the hotel’s outdoor pool. Nestled on the second floor, the area is like a mini garden with manicured shrubs and flora, plus comfortable lounge furniture for rest and relaxation. Other facilities include a fully-equipped gym, internet station, and a self-service laundry with amenities for washing, drying, and ironing your clothes.
Thanks to its strategic location along the Jurong Town Hall Road, just a few minutes’ stroll brings you to the Jurong Regional Library, as well as JCube, Westgate, and Big Box shopping malls, so guests would not have to worry about finding a place to eat or shop. The Jurong East MRT station and bus station are also right around the corner. For guests looking to enjoy Sentosa Island, not only can you buy tickets to RSW’s attractions such as S.E.A. Aquarium or Adventure Cove Waterpark at the hotel lobby, they even provide a 24-hour shuttle bus service to and from Sentosa Island for free!
Sleek and vibrant design, convenience, and comfort are the key aspects that make a stay at Genting Hotel Jurong a pleasant one, and totally complement my awesome fun-filled holiday at Universal Studios Singapore!
