Rumors about the next set of Nexus smartphones have been floating around on the web for the better part of a couple months, with the first reports surrounding who would be the manufacturer of the stock Android offering from Google. More than a quite a few rumors later it seems to have settled on the fact that there will be two Nexus smartphones this year, one being a 2015 reboot of the LG made Nexus 5, and another being a new Nexus phone manufactured by Huawei. The latest details leaked out much earlier this morning suggesting some yet unheard of rumored specs for the Huawei Nexus, including the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a 5.7-inch QHD display and that the device will be running Android M out of the box.
That last one of course is to be expected as Google’s latest Nexus smartphones usually launch with the latest or new version of Android software. The most recent specs leaks however (coming from the same source as the earlier leaks from this morning, the ver popular @evleaks) point to the inclusion of not only a fingerprint reader with the Huawei Nexus, but the use of USB Type-C for the charging and connection port instead of microUSB which is what phones are currently using.
Whether or not the latest rumored specs, or any of them for that matter end up in the final product still remains to be seen, but the latest two, being the fingerprint reader and the inclusion of a USB Type-C port aren’t that hard to believe. USB Type-C is already being used a few different laptops and numerous OEM’s have already confirmed USB Type-C would be used in some of their upcoming handsets. One of those laptops is Google’s reboot of the Chromebook Pixel, so it isn’t too outlandish to think it could arrive in their upcoming Nexus. As for the fingerprint reader, these are being seen in more and more smartphones these days and it wouldn’t be Huawei’s first time building one into a handset they’ve produced. Both new Nexus smartphones are expected to hit sometime this Fall around October, so it will only be another couple of months before things are officially announced. Keep in mind though that these specs leaks are still just unconfirmed rumors, so for now it’s best to think of any of the specs as still unknown.
