As expected, we’ve gotten a slew of questions about the HTC Vive World Tour since we kicked off last week. So, to simplify how we respond to your questions—and how you get your questions answered—we’ve put together this list of FAQs.
As the tour goes on, we’ll update this list with other relevant, frequently asked questions.
How do I make an appointment to demo the Vive at one of the stops?
At each stop we’re offering walk-up demos to the general public. You might have to wait a bit as each demo is 30 minutes long, but we have umbrellas for shade and fun people to talk with while you’re waiting. In general, the earlier you get to the truck, the quicker you’ll get your demo.
How long is the demo?
The demo itself is about 20 minutes long, but to ensure each visitor has a smooth experience, we’ve allocated 30 minutes to each demo slot. This extra time allows visitors to get accustomed to the headset and controllers and orient themselves before the demo begins.
How many demos are you doing each day?
At most stops, the truck is in operation for 10 hours each day. We can run 6 demos in an hour (3 demo bays x 2 half-hour slots in an hour = 6 demos per hour). With a little wiggle room, we can complete about 60 demos in a full day. Of course, depending on how the day goes, that number can decrease or increase slightly.
Can I record my experience in the demo bay?
Currently, we’re not encouraging people to record their demos. While the experience with the headset on is pretty spectacular, we admit that it looks a little goofy from the outside. Add to that the fact that our VR kit will be evolving in the months to come as we refine it to be market-ready and we think you’re better off just enjoying the demo and not worrying about capturing it on video. We’d be happy to stage a quick shot of you with the headset on if you’d like to get a photo, though!
Is this the final product that will be sold in stores?
This is not the final product that will be sold in stores. We wanted to get this headset out into the world and let people experience the wonder of VR, but we’re still refining this kit to make it fully consumer-ready. So just think—if you like what you see on the truck, imagine what the final version will be like!
Why aren’t there more locations on the “world” tour?
There are a number of factors that went into our selection of tour stops. Ideally, we’d be able to provide demos in every nook and cranny of the world, but that’s just not possible. If you can’t make it to any of the stops, numerous media outlets and individuals are sharing their experiences of the Vive on tour, and we’ve linked to some of those in this blog post.
