Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has launched the mid-range Desire 820G+ Dual SIM smartphone in India on Thursday for a price of Rs. 19,999 ($320). The device was launched in Taiwan last month, and is offered in Santorini White, Saffron Grey, and Milky Way Grey colors according to the company’s website. Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Mr. Faisal Siddiqui, President, South Asia, HTC said, “As our customers create and consume more rich video content and want greater freedom to personalize their smartphones, they are increasingly looking for bigger and better screens, faster processors, amazing sound, and outstanding battery life. We also know that they want more flexibility that comes with expandable memory. Today I am excited to announce that at only Rs. 19,990 the HTC Desire 820G+ Dual SIM delivers one of the most features found with a smartphone at this price. With an outstanding user experience in a sleek, chic, slim and colorful package”.

Coming to the hardware specifications of the Desire 820G+, the phone features a 5.5-inch 720p display and is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 SoC, which comes with an integrated octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 1.7 GHz. The phone has 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable by up to 32 GB with the help of a microSD card. The primary camera on the back of the device comes with a 13 megapixel sensor with LED flash, whereas the front-facing selfie-cam comes with a large 8 megapixel sensor. The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and carries a 2,600 mAh battery, which HTC claims will offer up to 12 hours of talk time and 560 hours of standby time. As for connectivity options, the phone seemingly lacks LTE support, as HTC’s website only lists support for 3G and legacy 2G networks. The phone however, supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS and microUSB connectivity.

With multiple Samsung devices also having been launched on the same day in India, social media users in the country do not seem to be too impressed with the device, as many observers (and potential buyers) are pointing out the 2-year old operating system and the lack of LTE connectivity in a smartphone costing exactly as much as the Asus ZenFone 2, which comes with significantly enhanced hardware (and newer software) for the price.
