Motorola Posts Release Notes for the Moto E 2015 Android 5.1 Update

Yesterday we saw that Motorola was looking to release Android 5.1 for the Moto X variants real soon, as they released the release notes for the update. Now it appears that the second generation Moto E is joining the group. There’s no word on when the update will be rolling out, but it shouldn’t be much longer. The Moto E 2015 did launch with Android 5.0, so it’s not a huge update for the Moto E 2015, but still a necessary one.

According to the change log from Motorola, you’ll be getting a lot of bug fixes as well as the ability to turn off interruptions for up to 12 hours or until your alarm goes off, which is a feature of Android 5.1. They’ve also updated Heads Up notifications. So instead of only being able to swipe it away, you can also now swipe up on it to get it out of the way, but it’ll remain in your notification tray. Which is better than just waiting for it to go away on its own or swiping it away aka dismissing it. There are also improvements to the ART Runtime, which will lead to faster load times for apps and games. There’s a ton of bug fixes in this update, which you can read by hitting the source link down below. For those interested, the update takes your Moto E 2015 to version 23.11.15.

It doesn’t appear that the update is rolling out just yet. But we should see it rolling out in the next few days, we hope. However, you can always jump into the Settings > About Phone > System Updates and tap on “Check for Updates” and see if you can pull down the Android 5.1 update. It’s a good thing that Motorola has decided to stick close to stock Android, as that means they can get updates out quicker than the likes of Samsung, HTC and LG. As they need to bake in updates with their repository for their UX. While Motorola basically needs to bake in a few features and update it for their hardware. Which doesn’t take too long.
