Lenovo Reveal New Budget Model A3900

Lenovo A3900

We’d seen rumors that Lenovo were working on a new budget device and it had appeared going through the Chinese regulatory website. Now, Lenovo have placed the A3900 on their website, effectively soft launching this device, which is priced at the equivalent of $80. The A3900 has been designed to look more fashionable compared with older budget models, especially the A3600 and A3800; Lenovo have spent longer working on the design and describe the device as having “a simple and elegant appearance.” There’s a metallic frame and a flat back. The device is a shade under 9mm thick; it’s not exceptionally thin, but it is not as chunky as some budgets devices can be.

In terms of specification, the Lenovo A3900 is based around a 5.0-inch, 480 by 854 resolution screen with a pixel density of 196ppi. This might seem a little low and it is when compared with flagship devices, but the A3900 is not designed as a flagship in any respect! Under the skin it’s powered by a quad core MediaTek processor, reported in some sources as the MT6752 and clocked at up to 1.2 GHz although this may not be an accurate processor model designation. There’s just 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage, which is bolstered by a MicroSD card slot. The A3900 is a dual-SIM handset and can handle both Micro SIM and Mini SIM formats, which makes life easier for international travellers. At the back, there’s a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling. There’s a 2,300 mAh rechargeable battery and Android 4.4 KitKat under Lenovo’s Vibe user interface. There’s more good news on the specification sheet, however: the A3900 has 4G LTE in addition to the usual expected Android smartphone radios of 2G, 3G and WiFi.

Looking through the specification of the device, the weak point appears to be the amount of RAM included on the device, which will limit how well the A3900 will multitask even despite Android Kit Kat’s optimization for low RAM devices. Otherwise, the budget smartphone has perfectly adequate looking specification, but looks a poorer relative compared with many similarly priced competitors. However, instead of trying to compete with box specifications, Lenovo is instead going for the design angle. The device is available now in Black and Pearl White colors.
