Amazon has unveiled the Amazon Dash Button, a button that can be placed virtually anywhere around your house that will allow you to order and re-order an item through Amazon.com with the single touch of a button.
The Amazon Dash button is actually free, and is only available for Amazon Prime members. Originally, the reveal was thought to be an April Fool’s Day joke by Amazon, but the company is quite serious that they want their customers to have these buttons around their house for simple re-ordering. The buttons are set up through the Amazon app on your smartphone and can be customized to order any household item available on Amazon.com.
The button will also send an order alert to your phone so that you can easily cancel the order if you change your mind.
I can’t imagine these Amazon Dash buttons being widely used. For one, they’re not exactly the smallest devices out there. And, secondly, it’s not like it takes a ton of effort to pull out your phone and order something on Amazon, anyway. Finally, why not just go to the grocery store while you’re out and about if you’re running low on something? One of the examples given in Amazon’s advertisement of the Dash Button was running out of coffee, but it’s not like Amazon has the cheapest coffee on the internet to begin with. So, why would anyone order coffee on Amazon instead of getting it elsewhere for cheaper?
