Sony appears to be gearing up for a roll out of the Android Lollipop software to the Xperia Z3 smartphone launched last Fall, as new reports are surfacing from some of Sony’s international Twitter accounts expressing that Lollipop will be on the way out to users. Just yesterday it was rumored that Sony would be sending out the updates to Xperia Z3 devices in Indonesia next week, and now Sony Xperia France is stating that updates are to begin sometime next week. Keep in mind that the tweet only mentions the Xperia Z3, with no mention or detail about the update for Xperia Z3 compact or Xperia Z3 tablet devices, or Sony’s Xperia Z2 flagship from the beginning of 2014.
While this doesn’t mean that U.S. or other regions of the Xperia Z3 devices will be getting the update to Android Lollipop along with the french models, it opens up the possibility that updates next week across multiple or all regions for the Xperia Z3 could be the case. It’s also worth noting that Sony Xperia France stated that deployments of the Lollipop update will roll out if “everything goes well,” meaning device users have a chance of not seeing the update next week at all. With that said, here’s hoping that everything goes well and as planned so the update arrives for all who own and use the device.
Sony device owners have been waiting quite a while for the update to Android Lollipop, quite patiently it seems like, but with all the time it’s taken so far another week shouldn’t hurt users if there happens to be a hiccup down the line. Especially if it means Sony is trying to ensure a delivery of the absolute best possible experience with the new software. If you happen to use an Xperia Z3 in France, keep your eye out for the update to hit your device sometime next week. While Xperia Z3 devices are right on the edge of getting their first taste of Android Lollipop, Nexus devices are beginning to receive updates to Android 5.1, which Google just officially announced a couple of days ago.
