It’s easy to consider clocks as more or less redundant, at least when it comes to sitting on desks or hanging on walls. If you’ve got even the cheapest conceivable cell phone, it still comes with an alarm clock function. So it’s entirely about aesthetics, now, and the Blub Uno, one has to admit, pretty much has that market completely cornered.
Tube Rocks
The design is actually fairly simple: The clock portion is a specially built vacuum tube that glows the individual numbers for the time. Just slot it into the base, set the time using the handy remote, and enjoy. The tube will last for several years and can be replaced by the complex method of pulling it out and pushing in the new one. It’s even got a backlit bit below.
The whole shebang is powered by USB, so you can actually take this with you. And it’s not a one-off, either; it’s actually a new version of the Blub, which used a similar design to show off your time. And yes, it has an alarm.
Tubular
It’s true that this is pretty much entirely about aesthetics over convenience, but really… so what? It looks cool, and really, if you’ve got a desk clock at this point, that’s what matters. Currently the Blub Uno starts at $299 on Kickstarter.
