SoundHUD Brings back the Silent Function in Lollipop [No Root Required]

We all know about the silent mode in Lollipop and how it’s not there. We’ve seen plenty of rants about it. For some reason, Google decided that we didn’t need an easy way to mute our phones in Android 5.0 Lollipop. It’s tough to figure out why though. It’s such a “small” feature, but it makes things so much easier when you’re in class, or at work and need your ringer to be turned off. However, a developer by the name of Great Bytes Software, has developed an app to bring back the silent function on Lollipop without the need of root. The name of the app is SoundHUD, and it’s free with some in-app purchases. Now there is a possibility that this could get taken down, but we’ll have to wait and see on that.

Basically what SoundHUD is, is a volume panel customization tool. It allows you to customize your phone to show all the volumes and adjust them with ease. And best of all, you can use the silent mode that’s missing in Lollipop. Which is very important to a lot of us.

Okay so the silent mode isn’t exactly silent mode. But it’s better than what we had. You’ll need to go into Settings, tap on Sounds & Notifications and then Interruptions. Now turn off all the priority interruption switches. Doing that mutes everything but alarms. So it’s mute, or silence, but just called something else. This is still a great app for being able to customize your volume panel. Instead of only being able to adjust media volume when in an app that’s playing media, you can do it when there’s nothing playing. Which can be a big deal as well.

The app is available in the Play Store now. And it tells me that it’s compatible with just about all of my devices, so it may not be limited to just Lollipop devices. But if you don’t have a Lollipop device, you probably don’t need this app.
