Google’s much sought after Inbox has continued to elude those who seek to integrate their Google for Work emails with the service, as even now and since launch Google has kept the new email application for Gmail to personal Google accounts only. The good news is that Google is going to begin testing Inbox with Google for Work accounts albeit with only a handful of companies at the moment, so that means anyone who is already using Inbox won’t be able to integrate their work or business Google accounts with the service just yet.
Google’s blog states that the testing will begin next month in March, and that they will begin enabling Inbox for a small handpicked selection of Google Apps customers. While getting things setup isn’t quite ready, Google is giving any Google Apps customer a chance to be part of the small batch of early adopters for Inbox by emailing inboxforwork@google.com from their Google Apps for Work administrator account. Emailing them a request doesn’t guarantee the use of Inbox with Google Apps accounts, but it at least puts those companies who apply on the list along with others who are showing interest.
Google mentioned that using Inbox with Google Apps accounts was “one of the biggest pieces of feedback” they had received from users, and some five months later after the initial Inbox launch they’re finally going to be making it possible. The fact that you still need an invite even for Inbox personal accounts displays that Google doesn’t quite have things with Inbox where they want them, and by opening up the testing to Google Apps for Work users they can broaden the offerings by finding out how people will be using Inbox to get things done in the workplace. Google states that they want to work with closely with the early adopters of the app, so that’s a big reason why they’re only opening it up to a small select group from the get go. They did mention though that Inbox will be expanding out to more Google Apps for Work accounts in the coming months, so between launch next month and through the summer we should begin to see it open up for more companies.
