Looking for a smartphone that can really withstand a beating? One that can survive in all of the elements without worrying about water or dirt damaging it as you trudge through the world? How about one that will last for days on a single charge, or if you really need it even over a full month in standby? How about one a super hero could use without breaking? Looks like you might just want the No.1 X-Men X1, a brand new phone just announced by Chinese manufacturer No.1 who’s famous for their quality reproductions of popular devices. Featuring a super rugged design built out of rubber, the X-Men X1 actually looks like it could have come straight out of the pages of a 1990’s X-Men comic with its black-and-yellow colors and the sharp line stylings on the case.
On the front of the phone you’ll find a 5-inch screen with four capacitive buttons below. There’s a front-facing camera right above the screen and of course the earpiece is fully covered and water-resistant as well. On the back you’ll find the No.1 logo as well as the IP68 water-and-dust resistance certification number on the back, which is the highest water-and-dust resistance the scale goes up to. This means the phone is rated to not only never get dust in its enclosure essentially no matter what condition you put it through, but that it can stay under water for a very long time without damage. The phone is also only 15mm thick which is rather thin for a ruggedized phone. Remember that’s only 5mm thicker than the Nexus 6 and considerably more durable.
Let’s not forget about the battery in this puppy which is a massive 5,800mAh. For comparison the No.1 Mi4 features an 1,800mAh battery, and many larger phones now feature somewhere in the realm of a 3,000mAh battery. This means the phone really will be able to take whatever you can throw at it in a day and still keep on chugging. 2-day battery life with normal use shouldn’t be a problem here, and you’d likely be able to stretch that longer if you really tried. No.1 is actually citing a 50-day battery life in standby, so leaving the phone on in your backpack while hiking the Sierra should keep it from dying for the whole trip. Don’t forget the 13 megapixel camera on the back either which should ensure all those beautiful sweeping vistas get captured without a fuss. All this is powered by a very stock-looking version of Android likely packed with lots of features given No.1’s other phones. Everything here adds up to a phone that definitely looks like it’s worth checking out if you’re in the market for a ruggedized phone!
