Android 5.0.2 For The Nexus 7 2012 WiFi Pushed To AOSP And Changelog Available

If you currently own the Google Nexus 7 2012 WiFi edition then it has been an eventful 24 hours and an uneventful week for the device. That is because roughly about a week ago an Android 5.0+ (Lollipop) update began being pushed out to Nexus devices. This update was an incremental update and brought the devices up from Android 5.0 to Android 5.0.1. This was largely considered to be a bug fix update. However, it seems the Nexus 7 2012 WiFi for some reason was one of the only Nexus devices to not receive the incremental update. At the time, it was not clear as to why the Nexus 7 was not receiving the update, but that did explain the uneventful week. However, in terms of the eventful 24 hours, the Nexus 7 has since received a Lollipop update in the form of a factory image going live for the device. What was interesting though was this update did not bring the Nexus 7 up to Android 5.0.1 but instead leapfrogged the current Nexus update and brought the device to Android 5.0.2.

Again, at the time it was not clear as to why the Nexus 7 was jumping passed the 5.0.1 update and landing on the 5.0.2 update and it was also not clear if this marked the beginning of another imminent incremental update to all the other Nexus devices. However, it now does seem that this is not the case and the Nexus 7 2012 Android 5.0.2 update is likely to be a device specific update. As mentioned the factory image went live yesterday and now it also seems to have hit the AOSP in code form. As such the OTA should have either already hit your device or at least be en-route. To add to this, the changelog has also now become available and as expected does seem to be largely a bug fix update.

The 5.0.2 update brings the Nexus 7 up to build number LRX22G and fixes a number of issues on the Nexus 7. The biggest of these fixes seems to be related to an issue with the tablet’s storage. In addition, another issue being fixed is in relation to the alarm on the device. This alarm fix in particular seems to be two-fold with one fix being “Tune delivery and batching of alarms” and the second one “Properly recognize repeating wakeup alarms”. If you are interested to see what else the changelog fixes then you can read the changelog in full by clicking the source link below. If you have not yet received your update then you can also download the factory image by clicking here. This is a direct download from Google. Have you already seen the OTA or flashed the image? Were there any of interesting fixes that you have noticed? Let us know.
