Samsung Trial ‘Get Help’ A Mayday-Like Help Feature For Their Chromebook 2

This morning Samsung started listing a new variant of their Chomebook 2. The new one comes with an 11.6″ sized screen and 16 GB internal memory. Sound familiar? Well, it’s should these are the same specs as the original Chromebook 2 model. The new variant differs in two respects. Firstly the device comes with an Intel Celeron Processor N2840 (clocks at 2.58GHz) instead of the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5420 processor. The second difference is the RAM has dropped from 4GB to 2GB. If you are interested then you can read about the device in more detail by hitting this morning’s report. The new Chromebook 2 is available for pre-order today and is expected to go on general sale next week.

To coincide with the launch of the new Chromebook Samsung have also started to test a new Get Help feature. Now in short this is very similar to Amazon’s rather successful Mayday service where Kindle owners can receive real-time help from Amazon engineers. In a similar fashion Samsung’s Get Help service connects its users with technical support (Samsung support team) with an easy click of the button. Although this is like Amazon’s Mayday support there are some notable differences. Firstly its operation hours. Mayday is a 24 hour service offering support right round the clock. In contrast Samsung’s help will only be available during ‘office hours’ – Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm (PT) which will be disappointing especially for those who work similar hours. The second notable difference is that Mayday offers users some degree of privacy during interaction. For instance with Mayday, you can see and hear the representative while they can only hear you. In contrast Samsung’s Get Help will be a live two-way process. So unfortunately you might want to re-evaluate what you are wearing while trouble shooting with Samsung.

If you are thinking about picking up the Chromebook 2 and want to give this feature a try then once you are signed in simply type “Chrome:help” into the adders bar and click the update. Once this has finished you should see a “Get Help” Button show up bottom left of the screen. The feature should be live Monday once the new Chromebook goes on general release. If you do get it and give it a try then don’t forget to let us know how it goes and what you think. Remember this might be like Mayday but is not Mayday so don’t be surprised if the staff you encounter are not quite as friendly as what we see on the Amazon Mayday adverts.
